Tributes to blaze victim nurse

TRIBUTES have been paid to a mother-of-three who died after a blaze swept through her home in a Hartlepool village.

Denise Cutter, 43, a staff nurse at the University Hospital of Hartlepool, died on Friday morning after a fire at her home in The Paddock in Elwick.

She is believed to have shared the home with her husband, named locally as David.

Today a colleague at the hospital said Mrs Cutter would be sadly missed.

Acting deputy director of nursing Barbara Carr, who knew her well, said: "Denise was a lovely girl.

"Very quiet and thoughtful and very well liked by patients. She will be sadly missed by her colleagues."

Fire crews and an ambulance were called to the house at 5.45am on Friday where they found Mrs Cutter inside an upstairs room.

Floral tributes had been laid over the weekend on the doorstep of Mrs Cutter's home, while neighbours had spoken of their shock following Friday's tragedy.

Police and fire chiefs are continuing their investigations into the blaze, and an appeal has been made for anyone with information to come forward.

A post-mortem examination took place, and she was formally identified by relatives on Saturday.

Detective Superintendent Gordon Lang, in charge of the investigation, said: "Our sympathies go out to Mrs Cutter's family and friends who are obviously devastated by their loss.

"Investigations into the cause of the fire are continuing.

"I would urge anyone with information to come forward."

Anyone with information regarding the incident should contact Hartlepool Police on (01642) 302126 or Crimestoppers anonymously on (0800) 555 111.
