TV faint a wedding day repeat

A WIFE who fainted in full view of TV cameras as her husband faced a big-money gamble has told how she did exactly the same thing on their wedding day.

Angela Lawlor lost consciousness during filming of the popular Channel 4 TV show Deal or No Deal as hubby Simon faced a banker's gamble which would have guaranteed him a five-figure sum.

She had been called from the audience at the Bristol TV studio moments before for moral support, but within minutes she had crumpled and slumped forward over the podium.

Paramedics rushed to her aid and host Noel Edmonds looked on anxiously before she was taken from the stage in a wheelchair and spent the rest of the show in a backstage room.

The episode, which was filmed in March, was being shown today at 4.15pm on Channel 4 and the couple, who live in Mildenhall Close, in the south Fens area of Hartlepool, were inviting close family and friends to their home to watch it.

Angela, 33, an occupational therapist, admitted she felt embarrassed at the time but added that it was not as calamitous as the time she keeled over after walking down the aisle to wed Simon three years ago.

In a bid to grab the falling bride, best man Graeme Measor dropped the wedding bands which clattered across the floor, and later had to crawl on all fours to retrieve them.

When the ceremony, at Hardwicke Hall Manor Hotel, in Hesleden, near Blackhall, in August 2006 re-started Angela had to take her vows sitting in a chair.

As she fainted she uttered the words "I can't do this" leaving nervous groom Simon wondering exactly what she meant.

Thankfully for the couple she only meant that she could not stop herself fainting, not that she was having second thoughts.

Angela, a former Brierton Community School pupil, said: "That's twice now.

"On the TV set I was more nervous than Simon. I was shaking and with all the bright lights I knew I was going to go and just couldn't stop it.

"The next thing I knew I was being taken away in a wheelchair and felt really embarrassed.

"It was a mixture of everything from emotion, to anxiety and adrenaline and I suppose just wanting Simon to do well.

"But we all have a laugh and joke about it now."

Simon, 36, a former Dyke House pupil, and now a warehouse supervisor at Vantech, in Washington, Tyne and Wear, was eventually offered a place on the hit gameshow after entering online in 2007.

He said that while he has no plans to apply for any more shows, he would have no qualms about getting his wife back up on a stage.

He said: "I must admit that when I first entered I never thought it would end like this!

"This was a potentially life-changing decision and I wanted Angela involved in it. Marriage is a partnership and I wanted her to be part of this.

"I think we managed to make our mark on the show in more ways than one."
