TWO people had to be cut free from their cars after being involved in a road smash.
Emergency services were called to Newholme Estate, in Station Town, near Wingate, after a two-car collision.
Paramedics were called to the scene around 5.20pm on Wednesday and two crews from Peterlee Fire Station were called minutes later to help free the occupants of the cars.
A man and a woman had to be cut free and both were taken to the University Hospital of North Durham for treatment.
The man was suffering from a leg injury, though no details were available of the woman’s injuries, although they aren’t believed to have been serious.
A spokesman for County Durham and Darlington Fire and Rescue Service said; “We were called to near Newholme Estate in Station Town to reports of persons trapped after a collision between two vehicles.
“One male was cut free and taken to the University Hospital of North Durham, as was one female.”
Firefighters were called at 5.20pm and left the scene at 6.18pm.
A North East Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We received a call to the scene at 5.12pm and the fire service were asked to attend to help extricate the patients.
“Both patients were taken to the University Hospital of North Durham.”
