AN AMBULANCE was involved in a smash with a van as it responded to an incident.
The St John’s Ambulance vehicle was travelling up Grange Road, in Hartlepool, when it collided with the Mercedes Sprinter van at the junction with the town’s Murray Street, at 2.55pm yesterday.
The driver of the charity ambulance, a man, suffered bruising to his head.
The driver of the van, also a man, sustained suspected concussion, said a spokeswoman for Cleveland Police.
Firefighters from Stranton Fire Station were called to the scene to help “unwedge” the van from the ambulance as the force of the collision had caused them to get stuck together.
A police spokeswoman said: “We received a report that a vehicle and an ambulance were in collision. The ambulance driver sustained bruising to his head.
“The driver of the van had possible concussion.
“The fire brigade were also called to help unwedge the van from the ambulance as they had become stuck together.”
The incident did not cause any major traffic hold-ups, but vehicles were forced to travel more slowly for a short time.
