VIDEO - More snow for Hartlepool and East Durham

HARTLEPOOL and East Durham have been hit by snow showers - and more wintry weather is forecast for the rest of the week.

Temperatures have struggled to get above freezing along the North-East coast today as the expected cold snap well and truly took hold.

Driving conditions have been difficult in the flurries and warnings have been issued for motorists to take care on icey roads.

Durham Tees Valley airport had to be closed due to heavy snow at midday, but staff hoped to reopen it within hours as they cleared up to four inches of snow from the runway.

The Met office is forecasting more snow tonight and tomorrow along with freezing conditions.

The temperature is then expected to plummet further on Wednesday to lows of -5C.

If you’ve been affected by snow or have pictures of the wintry conditions you want to share, contact the newsdesk on (01429) 239380 or email mail.news@northeast-press.co.uk
