VIDEO: Toddlers making movies on iPads
CHILDREN as young as two have been using iPads to make movies of their nursery fun.
The youngsters at Cheeky Monkeys Nursery, in Mapleton Road, love to spend their time in the construction area, their own fruit and veg shop and playing with toys and games.
And to make their nursery experience even more enjoyable, staff ordered in some iPads for the kids to use.
Leaders at the nursery say the hand-held devices are a “fantastic way for the children to learn and develop their skills”.
And to celebrate Cheeky Monkeys being open a year this month, the children used the iPads to film around the nursery and record videos saying what they enjoy playing with the most and their favourite activity over the past 12 months.
Once the video is edited, staff will then give a copy to each child as a lasting memory of their nursery days.
Manager Carly Fields said: “The children absolutely loved making the video and it’s looking fantastic.
“They really enjoy using the iPads and they have all taken on a grown-up role of looking after them in the nursery.” She added: “We introduced them to the children over the last few weeks. The iPads have apps on which we can link in with the different areas in the nursery.
“The apps can help them with counting activities, distinguishing between different colours and shapes but also sharing stories with friends while using the interactive tools on the iPad.
“Then we thought it would be a nice way to use the iPads to film the video.
“It’s going to be lovely for the children to look back on when they get older.”
Carly described the nursery’s first year as a huge success.
She said: “All of the staff can’t believe how quick the first year has gone.
“I would like to thank all of the staff and parents for all of their help and support in developing the nursery further.
“We are very proud of the nursery and we have all worked very hard over the last year.”
