Walking across water

A CHARITY champion is looking for volunteers to join him on an interesting walk – and sail – around Hartlepool later this month.

Dr Richard Moody, 57, of Catcote Road, Hartlepool, has had the idea of walking the whole of Hartlepool for years now and was hoping plans for a footbridge linking the marina and Headland would come to fruition.

But after those plans failed to leave the drawing board, Dr Moody has enlisted the help of the RNLI to help him complete his walk.

Richard, who works at the One Life Centre, Park Road, said: "I'm calling this walk the Right-Round Hartlepool Walk.

"The 20-mile walk will start at the Andy Capp statue which is located outside the Harbour of Refuge pub on the Headland.

"From there the walkers will get the lifeboat to the Marina then they will walk to Seaton, then Greatham, Dalton Piercy, Elwick, Crimdon to North Bay across the Headland promenade and back to the Andy Capp statue.

"I'm sure it will be tiring, but good fun!"

The charity which will benefit from the walk has not yet been decided, though Dr Moody is open to the idea of volunteers doing their own individual fundraiser for the charity of their choice.

The walk will take place on Sunday, September 19, and Dr Moody can be contacted on (01429) 421592 or by email at muddypool@hotmail.co.uk.
