Warning to motorists as eight-week sewerage works begin
AN eight-week road closure taking place in a bid to combat flooding was due to start today.
Motorists are being reminded that Powlett Road, in Hartlepool, will be closed from today until Monday, April 9, while £650,000 of improvements to a sewerage network are carried out.
Northumbrian Water is working to reduce the risk of flooding around seven homes in the Lancaster Road and Amberton Road area.
A diversion has been put in place along Raby Road and Middleton Road and back on to Marina Way.
The improvements, affecting the area to the east of the railway bridge and the junction with Lancaster Road, form part of a scheme linked to work in Lancaster Road that began in November last year.
JNB Bentley, contractors on behalf of Northumbrian Water, will install 750ft of new sewer piping along sections of Powlett Road, in addition to work done in Lancaster Road.
A new stormwater storage tank is also being built on land just off Lancaster Road North to combat flooding problems.
Northumbrian Water has apologised for any inconvenience caused and say the work may finish by March 26, although the eight-week period has been given as a provisional date.
Anyone with any queries or concerns about the scheme can call 0845 7171100.
