A WATER company is set to start a £550,000 scheme to reduce flooding risk to properties.

Northumbrian Water engineers will start work in Blackhall today and will continue for the next four months until November 28.

The workmen will be putting a new sewer pipe along sections of Hart Crescent and the Coast Road, which runs from Blackhall to Hartlepool.

But the work is also expected to bring delays for drivers as there will be traffic management in place while the scheme is developed.

One lane of the Coast Road will be closed between Thursday, August 21, and Wednesday, October 8.

There will also be a road closure in place in Hart Crescent from Monday, October 13 until Friday, October 24.

A spokeswoman for Northumbrian Water said the development will be carried out by ESH Construction.

She said: “The work will be to reduce the risk of flooding to three properties in the Blackhall area. We are spending £550,000 on the scheme. We would encourage people, if they need special assistance, to contact us and let us know. There will also be construction traffic accessing the site compound off the Coast Road.”

Northumbrian Water can be contacted on (0345) 7171100.
