Winter set to continue

THE winter chill is set to continue well into this week.

Hartlepool and East Durham suffered snow showers and biting cold weather yesterday and weathermen say we have not seen the end of the sub-zero temperatures.

The town can expect sleet tomorrow and snow showers on Wednesday, with temperatures gradually improving as the week progresses.

Temperatures will rise from zero degrees tonight to one degree on Thursday evening.

In East Durham, light snow is expected during daytime hours both tomorrow and Wednesday, before drier weather arrives on Thursday.

Long-term predictions show more low-level snow could arrive by Friday.

By next week, the colder and snowier weather will continue at the beginning of the week, especially at night-time when frost and ice remains a real threat.

Warmer weather is expected before the end of March.
