Woman is robbed at knifepoint
A WOMAN was left “shaken and distressed” after being robbed at knifepoint as she walked home from work.
The victim was forced to hand over her purse after she was approached by a man who produced a knife and threatened her.
Police are now appealing for witnesses to the incident, which happened in Warren Street, in Peterlee, at around 9.20pm on Thursday night.
The 53-year-old woman was walking home after finishing work at a nearby supermarket when a man approached, described as being 25-35 years old and between 5ft 10 and six feet tall.
The robber who was said to be stocky with a ‘round’ face, tattoos on his left arm and wearing a dark bomber-type jacket, demanded money after pulling out a knife.
The shocked victim, who luckily was left unhurt, handed over her purse which contained a small amount of cash and the man then ran off.
Anyone who was in the area between 9pm-10pm and may have seen a man matching this description is asked to contact Peterlee CID on the non-emergency 101 number or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
