THE demolition of a fire-ravaged snooker hall has started.

Hartlepool Snooker Club, in Green Street, off Burn Road, was devastated by the blaze which ripped through the property in March.

The flattening of the charred building – which is visible from the A689 Stockton Street – is now underway.

Workmen started dismantling some dangerous sections manually yesterday, ahead of the demolition machinery which was scheduled to arrive and start work over the next few days.

Owner, Neil Mosley, 44, who ran the business for 12 years, said the machines should have the building levelled within three days, but the whole job will take about three weeks.

He was going to visit the site to see if anything could be salvaged from the wreckage.

He said: “I have managed to save some things.

“I’m going to hang around to see if there is any other bits and bobs that I can get.

“It will be sad to see it go.”
