World Cup training bid for the Vic
A LUCRATIVE World Cup bid – which could see Hartlepool playing a significant role – has been submitted to footballing chiefs.
Hartlepool's Victoria Park ground is being proposed as a potential training venue for visiting international teams if Sunderland's bid to become a Host City pays off.
A delegation headed to deliver the final bid document to the England 2018/2022 movement on Wednesday.
Sunderland AFC Chairman Niall Quinn and England 2018 Ambassador Kenwyne Jones, the Black Cats' striker, were also among the delegation.
The bid has already won the support of Chris Turner, director of football at Hartlepool Unted and a former Sunderland goalkeeper.
He said: "This is a wonderful opportunity for Hartlepool United to be a part of this."
Niall Quinn said: "Our bid is about the people of the North-East and we were honoured to be representing them at Wembley."
The final evaluation of candidate host city bids will be announced by England 2018/2022 on December 16, with a decision by FIFA on which countries will host the 2018 and 2022 World Cups to follow in December 2010.
