TALENTED Jacob Sotheran-Darley is making a name for himself on the local music scene – despite only just turning 10 years old.

Guitarist Jacob has already penned three original songs and has appeared at numerous festivals and concerts where he has caught the eye of local music promoters.

Just before Christmas he rubbed shoulders with several established bands and musicians at least twice his age at Hartlepool’s Hillcarter Hotel.

It capped off a busy year for the budding musician after wowing music fans at a host of festivals and concerts all over the north.

Mum Louise Sotheran-Darley said: “He is so confident, he doesn’t get nervous at all.

“I’m there shaking like a leaf like a nervous wreck.

“I’m very proud of him.”

Last year Jacob played at the Willowman Festival in North Yorkshire, Solfest in Cumbria for the second year running in the open-mic tent, and at Red Dreams’ Bandstand Marathon in Ward Jackson Park for the culmination of the Olympics and Paralympics.

December was a busy month for the youngster, who lives on the Headland.

He was the only solo artist to perform at a Christmas concert with Tees Valley Music and also appeared in a band night at the Cameron’s Social Club.

Jacob, who was a finalist in last year’s Mail-backed Pride of Hartlepool Awards, said: “I want to be a professional musician.

“I enjoyed playing at the Hillcarter.

“There were lots of bands with all kinds of instruments and people thought I was really good.

“One man even wanted a picture with me.

“When we are waiting at school for the guitar teacher to come I sometimes get up in front and sing and they sing along.”

Jacob’s dad Lee Darley, who is a member of the popular Hartlepool group The Jar Family, bought him a guitar when Jacob was just four.

He has been playing almost non-stop since he was seven and now hones his talent with lessons at St Helen’s Primary School and from professional musicians with Tees Valley Music Service.

Proud mum Louise regularly posts videos of the youngster on video sharing website YouTube.
