Youngsters travel through time from 1066
YOUNGSTERS travelled through time to visit dates of historic importance for their end of term play.
Pupils at Greatham Primary School, in Egerton Terrace, Greatham, on the outskirts of Hartlepool, took to the stage this week to perform their play, The Keymaster, that sees them travel through time.
With an impressive number of costume changes, to reflect clothes worn during different periods, the youngsters visited 1066 for the Battle of Hastings, 1558 to represent the Tudors, 1733 for the industrial revolution and 1839 to see what life was like for youngsters working in cotton mills and as chimney sweeps.
Moving into the 20th Century, the youngsters visited 1918 to experience the end of World War One and the fight of the suffragettes and then on to 1941 for a taste of World War Two.
Headteacher Julie Tyerman said: "The keymaster unlocks the key to travelling backwards and forwards in time, and takes some students with him to realise that history is an exciting subject and lets us know who we are.
"They had lots of different costumes which the staff put together magnificently."
The 15 Year 6 pupils who will be leaving at the end of this week took the main roles, and Mrs Tyerman said it was quite an emotional time for them.
