Youth arrested after pizza shop fracas

A TEENAGER was arrested after a "large scale disturbance" outside a pizza shop in the early hours.

The incident happened outside a takeaway shop in Alexandra Terrace, close to Front Street, in Wheatley Hill, at around 3am yesterday.

Officers at Peterlee Police received reports of a large group of teenagers causing trouble outside the takeaway.

It is believed the youths were throwing glass, causing damage and shouting racial abuse at staff inside.

Inspector Kevin Blakey, of Durham Police, said: "We received a report of 10 to 15 youths causing trouble outside a pizza shop in Alexandra Terrace, in Wheatley Hill.

"The initial report at 3.20am said it was a large scale disturbance."

A 17-year-old male was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated criminal damage before being questioned by police.
