YOUNG people’s organisations have received a major funding boost thanks to members of a social club.

Hartlepool’s Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes (RAOB), known more commonly as the Buffs, has raised a total of £1,020 over the past year with all proceeds going to seven town charities nominated by Hartlepool Council’s chairman, Labour councillor Stephen Akers-Belcher.

It means the total amount raised so far this municipal year is more than £19,000.

The Headland based Royal Jubilee/Nugent Lodge raised the money by holding a tombola, raffle and bucket collections throughout the year.

The seven town charities are The Belle Vue Youth project, Central Correctors, Hartlepool Young Carers, Nurturing Young People’s Development (NYPD),

The Phoenix Funsters, The Rifty Youth Project and the Wharton Annexe.

Barry Fishburn, a member of the Buffs, said: “Every year we raise money for a different charity and we were only too pleased to support the council chairman’s seven local young people’s charities.

“We held several events to raise the money including a tombola, a raffle and bucket collections throughout the year, I am sure the money will be put to good use.”

Coun Akers-Belcher said: “The ‘Buffs’ have a long association with Hartlepool dating back to 1847 and I am delighted that the organisation has supported my seven nominated charities.

“It is a very welcome boost and takes the total money raised so far to over £19,000.”
