A MAN has died after being hit by a train.
The 28-year-old, believed to have been from Horden, was pronounced dead after being hit by a train in the village on Sunday
Emergency services were called to the scene shortly after 5pm and police say they are not treating his death as suspicious.
British Transport Police say they are preparing a file for County Durham Coroner Andrew Tweddle.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokeswoman said: “BTP officers were called to Horden, County Durham, on Sunday, April 7, following a report that a man had been hit by a train.
“Officers from Durham Constabulary also attended the incident, which was reported to BTP at 5.09pm and is currently being treated as non-suspicious.
“Medics from the North East Ambulance Service also attended, but the man who is believed to be 28 and from Horden was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The man’s family have been informed.
“A file will be prepared for the coroner.”
