A MAN has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack.
Firefighters were called to a house in Lansdowne Road, Hartlepool, after a blaze that police are treating as arson with intent to endanger life.
The alarm was raised after house fire alarm went off and woke a man and woman who were in the property.
After going downstairs, they found that the front door of the premises was on fire.
Firefighters put out the blaze, at around 3am on Saturday, and police were called to investigate as it appeared to be suspicious.
A 43-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and has been bailed pending further investigation.
Detectives are appealing for people to come forward who believe they may have seen anything of interest around the time of the fire.
