A man has been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary after firefighters rescued him from a shop roof in Hartlepool.

Firefighters were called to assist police, at 7am today, after the man climbed onto a flat roof above a shop in Raby Road and was unable to get down.

One appliance from Stranton fire station attended the scene and used ladder to help the man down. They were on the scene for 30 minutes.

A spokeswoman for Cleveland Police said: "We have arrested a 29-year-old man on suspicion of burglary with intent to steal."
