A BURGLARY suspect who scaled a roof was arrested after a five-hour stand off with police.
Police negotiators and other emergency services attended Cameron Road, off Raby Road in Hartlepool following reports of a burglary at about 7.20pm last night.
A 22-year-old man was spotted on a roof and refused to come down.
He eventually agreed to come down at 12.30am, and was arrested on suspicion of burglary and several other offences.
A cordon was put in place in Cameron Road and Belk Street while the incident was ongoing.
Inspector Dave Galloway of Hartlepool Police said: “He climbed across several roofs.
“There were concerns because of the weather and the potential that he could have hurt himself, but we thank the other services for their help and members of public for their patience.
“It ended safely as he voluntarily agreed to come down himself.
“Police responded to an initial report of a burglary and the man has been arrested on suspicion of that plus several other offences.
“He is now in custody and is helping us with our inquiries.”
The fire and ambulance services also attended the scene and residents came out of their houses to watch the drama.
