Man in hospital after street attack

A REVELLER suffered serious head injuries after being battered unconscious in a vicious street attack.

The 27-year-old victim was found slumped in the doorway of Kingfisher Computers, in Church Street, Hartlepool, at 2.20am on Sunday.

He was rushed to the University Hospital of Hartlepool with serious head injuries, before being transferred to James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough early yesterday.

It is understood the man is from Hartlepool, and his condition was described as stable.

A cordon was immediately set up around the crime scene, and police remained at the scene throughout the day yesterday with the area taped off.

Police have arrested two Hartlepool men in connection with the assault.

A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault, along with a 27-year-old town man who was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

A police spokesman said: “The pair have been bailed pending further inquiries.”

Police know the area was busy at the time of the assault and are now asking anyone who may have any information leading to the identity of the person responsible to come forward.
