A LOVING mum, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, who is described as a “treasure” by her proud family, has celebrated her 102nd birthday.

Margaret Hutchinson was surrounded by her loved ones at Abbeyvale Care Centre, in Blackhall, where she has lived for the last two and a half years.

The mum of four and grandmother of seven, who also has six great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, said: “I had a lovely day, it was brilliant.”

Margaret was born in Wheatley Hill but left for Harrogate to work when she was 14.

She returned to the area and lived in Easington and Peterlee.

Margaret, a retired cleaner and school cook, lost her husband, William, when he was serving in the Coldstream Guards in 1943, aged 33.

Her daughter, Sylvia Watson, 82, said: “Throughout her life Margaret has always done all she can to help others, she is a real treasure.

“I don’t know what the secret is to her long life, she has always just been so kind and caring.”

Margaret celebrated her birthday with a small party for family and friends in the care home.

Sylvia added: “It was a lovely day, it was lovely to have everyone together.”
