A TRADITIONAL Christmas market has been hailed a great success by organisers.
Greatham Christmas Market took place on the village green on Sunday afternoon bringing the community together.
A host of community groups, charities and small businesses held stalls promoting their work and selling gifts ideal for Christmas.
Greatham Community Association also threw open the doors to the community centre to keep visitors warm and well fuelled with refreshments and snacks.
The market was organised by a team of volunteers from the village.
Angela McKie, of McKie’s General Dealers, who was one of the organisers, said: “It was absolutely fantastic. We would like to thank everybody who came along or helped in any way by setting up stalls on the day.
“It was a real success. We had all sorts of things there and there was a great turnout.”
Youngsters got the chance to tell Father Christmas what is on their Christmas list at Santa’s Grotto provided by the Greatham Feast Committee.
Owls and alpacas proved a hit with the animal-loving public.
And there was plenty of treats and gift ideas among the stalls including a cake stall by the parish church St John the Baptist and hand-made soft toys by Rocket and Jam.
Several charities used the event to raise their profile and funds including Help for Heroes and a cancer trust.
A grand raffle was drawn on the afternoon when the first prize was £100 cash.
But a number of prizes are still waiting to be claimed.
They are a hamper with the ticket number 01672, Yankee Candle 01514, £10 hairdressing voucher 00236, £5 meat voucher 01011, a big box of chocolates 01139, soap set 01079, bottle of Bucks Fizz 00909 and a bottle of Shloer 01019.
