MAYOR Stuart Drummond has given his backing to Hartlepool’s Olympic hopefuls and urged others to do the same.

The Mail is encouraging people to show their support for swimmer Jemma Lowe and boxer Savannah Marshall in their bid for Olympic glory.

We want you to support the duo by putting our Going For Gold poster in your homes, at your workplaces and anywhere else you can think to display them.

People across town have already shown their support and Mayor Drummond took time out of his busy schedule to back the pair.

The town’s leader said: “Hosting the Olympics in your own country is a once in a lifetime opportunity.

“To have two representatives from Hartlepool is absolutely phenomenal and I wish them the very best of luck.

“I am sure the whole town will be backing them 100 per cent.

“If they win gold they will be able to hear the cheers from up here.

“I would encourage people and businesses across Hartlepool to show their support and put the Mail’s posters up in the window.”
