A NEW nursery has officially opened its doors at a multi-million pound school.

Avondale Cheeky Monkeys nursery is based within the Avondale Centre at the revamped £12.4m Dyke House Sports and Technology College, in Mapleton Road.

The nursery caters for a maximum number of 25 children a day, aged from nought to eight.

Avondale Cheeky Monkeys offers an after-school and “wrap-around” service for the older children, which sees staff pick the children up from school and take them to the nursery where they can be collected later by parents. Nursery bosses say they cater for parents in the local community, teaching staff with children and also any school pupils that may have children.

On Saturday Hartlepool Mayor Stuart Drummond officially opened the nursery at an open day for parents.

Entertainment was provided by Jill Cooper Dance Academy and there was also cake making, mask making and refreshments on offer.

Carly Fields, nursery manager, said: “We are very excited to be open and this facility will provide lots of parents in this area with care. I would like to thank Mayor Drummond, Jill Cooper Dance Academy, the staff, family and friends for their help.”

The nursery, which is open 7.30am to 6pm Monday to Friday, employs eight people.

The nursery also has access to an ICT room and the sports hall within the school’s Avondale Centre, which has a number of ICT and conference rooms available for community hire.
