ENVIRONMENTALLY-friendly children have been helping to keep an area of Hartlepool clean.

Youngsters from Stranton Primary School, in Southburn Terrace, Hartlepool, spent the morning collecting bags full of rubbish as part of a recent spring clean.

The litter-pick started at 9.15am at the school and finished at the McDonald’s restaurant in Burn Road, in the centre of town, just before lunchtime.

Dozens of children from the school took part and they were all kitted out with litter picks, plastic bags and bibs.

During the course of the morning they managed to collect a grand total of 22 bags of rubbish before finishing at the McDonald’s site.

The morning litter-pick was organised by Denise Noble, of McDonald’s and staff at the town school.

Bev Williamson, a supervisor at the Burn Road McDonald’s site, said: “We do a lot of initiatives like this and the children managed to collect 22 bags of litter, which was really fantastic.”
