MEET Hartlepool’s cutest child - little Monty Deer.

Every parent believes their babies are the most gorgeous but Monty’s mum and dad, Louise and Harland Deer, now know it for certain after their precious little boy was crowned the winner of the Mail’s Cute Kids contest.

But as well as the two-year-old being beautiful, he is extra-special to his parents after he was born prematurely and spent the first weeks of his life in hospital.

Monty was born 10 weeks early after his mum began suffering with dangerous pregnancy-related condition pre-eclampsia, which can only be cured by delivery of the baby.

Doctors held on for as long as possible before Louise’s condition worsened so much that they were forced to perform an emergency caesarian and bring Monty into the world on December 14, 2012, instead of his due date, Valentine’s Day 2013.

Louise, 32, ho grew up in Hartlepool but now lives in Lanchester Avenue, Billngham, said: “Monty is special to us, he was born very prematurely and was a special care baby to start off with.

“I was poorly throughout my full pregnancy and I had pre-eclampsia and Monty was born 10 weeks early. He was a tiny little dot when he was born by emergency section.

“He is fully fit and healthy and we’ve never had any problems with him apart from he needed to put on weight and get a bit stronger.

“Development-wise he’s perfect. To win this has just been like the cherry on the cake for us, we think he’s really cute anyway!”

She added: “It was the first time we have ever entered him into anything like this.

“We just think he’s a little bit of a cheeky chappy and thought that other people might think the same.

“When we were told he’d won we were just absolutely delighted because there was obviously a lot of other attractive children in there and everybody thinks that their child deserves to win.”
