PEOPLE can get the opportunity to experience a unique practice during weekly yoga sessions taking place on the outskirts of Hartlepool.
The sessions take place every Tuesday from 8pm at Hart Village Hall.
They are run by Mike Martin, a Taoist monk who lives in the Grange Road area.
Mike, 40, was initially involved in martial arts but around 10 years ago he was introduced to the Taoist culture.
Having quit his job in the financial sector to devote his life to the culture, Mike is now passing on his technique to others and hopes they become as involved as he did.
He said: “This is an entire lifestyle, and the people who have come to the classes so far have really enjoyed it.
“The sessions are designed to gently awaken the bodily systems before blasting them with oxygen to fire on all cylinders.
“It is a creativity which looks at the unconditioned intelligence, which is the intelligence beyond the programmed mind.
“I’ve given over my life to this, I’ve been practising for over 10 years now.
“It isn’t just conventional yoga, this is a bit mor unorthodox and it is more in tune with the individual’s body.
“I have found this is a great way of getting rid of all of the stresses in our lives that we have to deal with on a daily basis.
“Everyone is different, and this recognises that.
“It isn’t just about everyone doing the same thing, everybody is different and that is reflected in the sessions.”
