MEN and boys looking to take part in a major fundraiser are being urged to return their forms so race organisers know exactly how many people will be taking part.

Miles for Men is set to be held in Hartlepool at the end of next month and men of all ages are being urged to sign up for the event which raises vital funds for Cancer Research UK.

Organiser Michael Day is hoping to see as many people as possible support the cause and has issued a plea for people who already have registration forms to send them back as soon as possible.

The 39-year-old said before the day they need to know exactly how many people will be taking part for insurance purposes.

The 5k Miles for Men event will be held on Sunday, July 28, and follows last year’s successful event in Hartlepool, which saw 1,000 men of all ages run, walk, or jog a three-mile route in aid of the national cancer charity.

The event was a huge success and raised £40,000 for Cancer Research UK and this year it has been rolled out to Liverpool and Newcastle as well.

Father-of-three Michael launched Miles for Men in memory of his dad Michael Senior, who died of throat cancer in 2007, aged 67.

Single Michael, of Innes Road, said: “There has been a lot of people asking how they can register for this year’s event and the support is definitely there for another successful year.

“I would simply urge people thinking about taking part to get involved because a lot of effort has gone into making this year even bigger and better.

“It should be a great day and we are hoping to raise as much money as possible.

“I would also encourage people who have registration forms to send them back in so we can get an idea of how many people will be taking part.

“We will also need to know for insurance purposes ahead of the event.”

Colourful comedian Roy Chubby Brown will be starting Miles for Men, which starts at Maritime Avenue and finishes at Seaton Carew Cricket Club where there will be a fun day and live music, featuring bands including The Style Selektors.
