SECRET Millionaire Carl Hopkins is to return to the community that he donated thousands of pounds to.

Mr Hopkins will be in Easington Colliery as the Social Welfare Centre unveils a new lift after years of work.

On Friday, July 27, he will speak infront of Welfare committee members and regulars as they celebrate the momentous occasion.

For the Welfare, it is not just a case of being able to get up and down the levels easier, but it can help secure much-needed funding in the future.

Carl, who gave away £42,000 of his own money to places in the community, has only been to the area “a few times” since the Channel 4 programme was aired, but is happy to be coming back to see the changes.

He said: “I am really looking forward to going back to Easington.

“When I was there the people were welcoming and everyone talked to you. I think I knew more people in Easington during the short amount of time I was there than I do in my own town.

“The Welfare is full of history and it is a pleasure to know that I was a part of something that means so much to people around there.

“It is a great achievement to be able to get the lift in because it could mean a lot in the future for investors and developments.”

Ian Foster, Welfare chairman, added: “It is a pleasure to welcome Carl back. I hope he can see how much he helped the community building and sustained it for a long time.”
