A MOTORIST had a miraculous escape from this horrific crash.
The driver of the silver Vauxhall Vectra was rushed to hospital after his car left the A19 dual carriageway near Hartlepool and crashed into tree on an embankment.
He was taken to James Cook University Hospital, in Middlesbrough, after the crash at Dalton Piercy at 8am on Saturday.
But ambulance chiefs said it was just a precaution and he appeared to have suffered only a minor injury to his hip.
Police said the incident happened as the car, which was travelling north, crossed the A19.
Long queues of traffic built up after police closed the southbound carriageway for around two hours.
The road was shut between the A179 Hart bypass and A1185 Billingham junction so the emergency services could help the driver and the car to be recovered.
A spokesman for the North East Ambulance Service said: “A car collided with a tree.
“One patient was transported to James Cook University Hospital as a precaution.
“He appeared to have a minor hip injury.”
