POLICE are appealing for help from the public in their attempts to trace a man who has been missing since Friday.

Robert Gordon Sanderson, 57, was last seen at his home in Witton Garth, Peterlee, on Friday morning.

His sister saw him at around 6am when he left home to go for a walk.

Mr Sanderson is around 6ft tall and has short dark brown hair.

He wears glasses and was last seen wearing a black sweater, blue jeans and black trainers or boots.

The police helicopter was scrambled in the early hours of Sunday to look for Mr Sanderson in the Peterlee and Crimdon areas, but efforts have so far drawn a blank.

Inspector David Wells said: “We are concerned for Robert’s welfare since it is out of character for him to have gone missing in this way.

“Robert enjoyed walking in the Peterlee dene area so we would ask anyone walking in that area to be vigilant.

“Anyone who does see Robert is asked to contact police immediately.”

Any information concerning Mr Sanderson should be reported to Peterlee Police on 101.
