CUTE and cuddly rescue dog Mo Sparkle is going down to a storm with his plans for a charity swim.
The six-year-old pooch will be doing 10 lengths of a pool at K9 Hydrotherapy, in Scarborough Street, Hartlepool, on Thursday, July 26.
The Hartlepool Mail was first to feature Mo’s magnificent efforts with a story last month.
Since then, the big-hearted public has flocked forward with donations.
His owner Linda Wilson said: “He has made £750 so far and he is on target to do really well.
“I think people are sponsoring Mo because he is really cute, but I would also hope they are wanting to support the charity that the money is going to.”
Mo’s original target was to bring in £800 for Moodswings, which is a Manchester-based charity that supports people suffering from any kind of emotional distress.
But he now looks set to beat that total and help support Moodswings, which is moving to a new headquarters.
The project to move to a new base has so far cost £500,000 and another £15,000 is needed to pay for facilities inside the new headquarters, including safety equipment and a defibrillator.
Mo Sparkle is a six-year-old rescue dog who was abandoned on Brighton Pier by a previous owner and then taken on by Hartlepool woman Linda.
He was recently diagnosed with epilepsy and started swimming to keep fit and lose weight after his period of ill health, Linda said.
Linda and her partner Tom McAlpine – whose daughter Jennie stars in Coronation Street – run the charity, which runs a helpline used by people in areas including Hartlepool.
Mo already has his own sponsorship justgiving page at www.justgiving.com/MoSparkle.
Cheques payable to Moodswings can also be sent to Moodswings 23 New Mount St, Manchester M4 4DE. The charity can also be contacted on (0161) 9534105.
Moodswings’ helpline can be contact on 0845 1236050.
