A MOTORCYCLIST was taken to hospital with leg injuries after coming off his bike when Hartlepool was hit by torrential downpours.
The man came off his bike near the Tesco roundabout, in Burn Road, at around 4pm on Sunday just after the heavens opened.
No other vehicle was involved and the man was taken by ambulance to hospital for treatment.
Police said his injuries were not life threatening.
Another biker also came off his motorbike at around the same time near the A689 Wolviston roundabout heading out of town.
It is believed he lost control in the wet conditions and ended up on the grass verge.
Hartlepool was drenched by sudden heavy rain when thunder and lightning struck on Sunday lunchtime.
It left lots of standing water on roads making for hazardous driving conditions.
