Throughout last month, staff at the Peterlee-based college and family members of students and staff were encouraged to take part in the event, coming into the college salon throughout November to have their facial hair shaped and styled for donations to the men’s health charity.

Barbering level 3 student Penny Brown’s partner, Andrew Davidson, took part alongside a group from his workplace, Peterlee-based engineering firm TR Automotive, who helped make a huge contribution of to the fund.

The barbering department also held bake sales and had a fundraising drive throughout the college raising £693.

East Durham College barbering lecturer Alison Scattergood praised everyone’s effort over the past month and thanked everyone who took part in the fundraising.

She said: “This has been a brilliant event for us all to be a part of.

“The Men’s Hairdressing Federation asked us to take part in the event alongside them and we jumped at the chance to work with such a great organisation.

“The students have been fantastic throughout, going out of their way to help raise money wherever possible both inside college and when at home.

“We can’t go without saying a big thanks to the staff at TRW for the tremendous contribution they made to the fund.

“Also a huge thanks must go to the family members, staff members at the college and the members of the general public who have grown moustache and beards across the month to come in and take part in the event.”
