HARTLEPOOL MP Iain Wright criticised the Chancellor for the visit – and called for him to be sacked.
Mr Wright said the production of oil and gas in the North Sea has been held up since Mr Osborne raised the tax for oil and gas products in his first budget.
The Labour MP said: “The fact that he has come to Hartlepool is rather similar to somebody smashing a window then repairing it and expecting a round of applause.
“His first budget held up production of North Sea oil and gas.
“The best thing that David Cameron can do for the people of Hartlepool is call a general election, but in the short term it’s to remove the Chancellor from his role.
“His economic policies just aren’t working and they are undermining the futures of so many people in this part of the world.
“He speaks hollow words that will mean nothing to the many young people who find themselves out of work and without hope or employment.”
