HARTLEPOOL MP Iain Wright attended an event to mark a change in the banking sector which will also affect people in Hartlepool.
The Current Account Switch Guarantee has been launched nationally making it easier for customers to move their business from one bank to another.
And Mr Wright went along to Middleton Grange Shopping Centre in Hartlepool to meet with representatives of the Payments Council, which has spearheaded the change.
Mr Wright told the Mail: “It’s a good thing for Hartlepool and the rest of the country because people have put up with shoddy services from their banks for too long.
“The best way in which quality can improve is by customers saying ‘I’m not staying with you I’m moving to another bank’.
“It will raise banks’ game and give a more responsive service to customers.”
He added: “This is a really simple service, it’s hassle free for the customer and the bank has to do everything, so if anything goes wrong they will sort it.
“Previously it could take 30 days to get everything switched over, but now it’s guaranteed seven days.
“Customers in Hartlepool and elsewhere will get a better service.”
