MPs from throughout the region have agreed to work together to achieve the “successful transfer” of Durham Tees Valley airport.
Hartlepool MP Iain Wright, Sedgefield MP Phil Wilson, and Alex Cunningham, MP for Stockton North, joined other MPs from across the Tees Valley to declare it is in the best interest of residents and businesses that uncertainty over the ownership of the airport is ended as soon as possible.
Peel Airports announced plans to sell its majority share in the airport last year.
The MPs met with Tees Valley Unlimited (TVU) managing director Stephen Catchpole yesterday, and they agreed to work together to ensure the transfer to a “credible and experienced aviation operator”.
MP Phil Wilson said: “Tees Valley MPs are committed on a cross-party basis to a successful sale of DTVA.
“The airport is one of the area’s significant assets and we will work to secure its future.
“The meeting with TVU was to look at what else we could do to ensure the sale is successful.”
Stephen Catchpole added: “Tees Valley Unlimited also recognises the airport as an important asset for the area, and we are keen for it to support economic activity in the sub-region.”
