A HEARTBROKEN mum has told of the anguish of losing her 24-year-old son to cancer.
Hartlepool man Michael Holliday, known affectionately as Bertie, lost a 17-month battle with the disease on Sunday.
It is the second tragedy to hit Michael’s devastated mum, Diane, 45, whose younger son Gary died aged just seven months old.
Gary, who was survived by his twin sister, Courtney, now 13, was struck down with meningitis in June 1998.
Diane, from the Dyke House area of Hartlepool, who has three other sons, Dean, 25, Scott, 21 and Carl, 17, said: “No mother should ever have to bury her child, but I will have buried two.
“When I lost Gary, I thought I’ve got to be brave for the rest of them.
“Now I’m burying Bertie, I’ve got to be brave for the others.”
