GRANDPARENTS have thanked a mystery teenager after he gave their grandchild £5 as a birthday present while the family enjoyed a meal.
Eight-year-old Ben Pringle was enjoying a birthday treat at Pizza Hut, in Hartlepool, on Monday night when the teenager approached the table and offered the grateful youngster a £5 note to treat himself with.
Ben’s grandparents Jean and Jim Kennedy didn’t get the youngster’s name but they approached the Mail to thank him again publicly for his generosity.
Ben was enjoying his birthday meal with his grandparents, his six-year-old sister Amy, and parents Allyson and Ian Pringle, who live on the Fens estate in Hartlepool.
Jean, who lives in Seaton Carew, said: “We had enjoyed our meal and had taken a birthday cake and candles with us to celebrate Ben’s birthday.
“We were all singing happy birthday and cutting the cake when this young lad approached the table and gave Ben £5 and said get yourself a little present.
“It was a lovely gesture and teenagers can get a bad name these days but we wanted to thank the lad for his kindness.
“We didn’t catch his name but wanted to thank him publicly for his lovely gesture. Ben was delighted.”
Jean said they believed the young man, thought to be about 18, had been eating at Pizza Hut with his girlfriend before he made the gesture as he left at around 7pm on Monday, July 1.
