A DENTIST has been appointed to a national role to ensure quality levels at dental schools across the country.

Dr Paul Howlett, from the Queensway Dental Clinic in Billingham, has been appointed by the General Dental Council (GDC) as a Quality Assurance of Education Inspector.

And even though he will travel the length and breadth of the country in the job, he will still be keeping up his role at Queensway.

He said: “It will be my job to ensure that dental schools across the UK, which run courses that lead to registration with the GDC, adhere to the document as part of their overarching quality assurance.

“Education has always ranked highly on Queensway’s agenda. The recent opening of our new Education Centre has made it more of a priority than ever, so the partners were extremely encouraging when I expressed an interest in applying for this role in the GDC.

“Within dentistry education is a lifelong commitment, beginning at grassroots level at the dental schools so it is essential that dental students receive the teaching foundations they deserve.”

Queensway Dental Clinic was established in 1994 and now employs over 100 staff at its sites in Billingham and Darlington.
