Ten streets will be turned into 20mph zones.

Drivers will be made to slow down on a number of residential streets after a new 20mph limit was passed.

The new zone will cover 10 roads in the South Fens area of Hartlepool.

A proposal for the 20mph limit was agreed unanimously by councillors on the neighbourhood services committee.

A report by Alastair Smith, assistant director (neighbourhoods) said the scheme was designed following requests from residents, through their ward councillors and the Fens Residents’ Association.

About 475 households in the area affected were canvassed about the proposal.

Just under half responded, with the majority in favour of the lower limit.

Roads that will form the new zone are Spalding Road, Newark Road, Crowland Road, Witham Grove, Thursby Grove, Royston Grove, Winthorpe Grove, Navenby Grove, Brandon Close, Wisbech Close.

The new zone will cost the council about £2,000 to introduce.
