MORE jobs are on the way after an energy supplier launched a recruitment drive.

Peterlee in particular will be given an employment boost after npower announced 30 new vacancies.

The firm is advertising 30 new team manager positions, which follows a recent intake of more than 200 staff at various locations around the region.

An open event is being held this Saturday to give people a chance to find out more about the roles.

The news is a welcome boost to the Hartlepool Mail’s Work in Progress campaign, which aims to highlight the plight of the unemployed in Hartlepool and east Durham.

Last month, there were 4,633 Hartlepool people claiming jobless benefit, up from 4,451 the previous month.

In the former Easington district, the number of claimants was also up, from 3,530 in December to 3,714 in January.

But the number of people out of work could be bigger as the figures do not account for those ineligible for the benefit.

Paul Robinson, head of npower’s contact centres, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer another 30 jobs to the local community.

“These team managers will bolster the npower team and ensure we can deliver the very best service possible to customers.

“We hope the creation of these roles will have a positive impact on this area.’

The new full-time positions will be at the company’s bases in Peterlee, Thornaby and Houghton-le-Spring.

npower’s recruitment process began at the start of the year, with several successful events to recruit customer service advisors in the North-East.

Following the popularity of these sessions, another recruitment event specifically for team managers will take place at npower’s Houghton le Spring site this Saturday.

It will be held between 10am and 3pm at the firm’s offices at Rainton Bridge, Cygnet Way, Houghton le Spring, DH4 5QZ.

An opportunity will be provided to gain more information about the team manager roles.

Alternatively, if applicants would like an initial assessment on the day, they can call 0845 172 8043 to book their place.
