A DEDICATED councillor who is shedding the pounds says signing up for a weight-loss challenge has given her a “new lease of life”.
Kaylee Sirs, 39, wanted to change her lifestyle and lose weight ahead of her 40th birthday next year – and has been given a helping hand after spotting the Weigh Forward competition.
The Foggy Furze councillor signed up for the competition, which is run by the Hartlepool Mail in conjunction with Tavistock Leisure and personal trainer Steven Smith and has already managed to shed 12 pounds in just six weeks.
But Kaylee is far from content with what she has already achieved. She now weighs 15st 8lb, but wants to get down to 10st by August next year.
“I’m over the moon with how things are going so far,” said Kaylee, who lives in Charterhouse Street, in the town.
“To be honest it’s given me a new lease of life, I’m so much more energetic and I feel a lot better in myself.”
Kaylee has been working alongside the 11 other participants in the weight-loss challenge thanks to the expert help of trainer Steven.
But while he enjoys a two-week holiday, all of the motivated contestants have been carrying on their programmes.
“I have just signed up for a counselling college course on a Tuesday and I am at council on a Thursday when the sessions take place so I haven’t been able to make it the last couple of weeks,” added Kaylee.
“But I have been carrying on the training on my own, going to the gym and going running.”
And her dedication to the cause is having a direct impact on Kaylee’s family.
Her husband, Alan, 43, a welder, has already lost more than a stone since he started going swimming with their daughter, Elle, 12.
Kaylee is in the running to win the competition first prize of a hotel stay and personal training with Steven for two months or the runner-up of a month’s supply of personal training.
But she says regardless of the outcome of the competition she will continue her fitness programme.
