New role for Mail editor

HARTLEPOOL Mail Editor Joy Yates is today starting a new role.

Joy will take over the reins as editor of the Mail’s sister paper, the Shields Gazette.

She will also remain as editor of the six-night-a-week Mail and the weekly paper the Peterlee Star.

Joy became editor of the Mail in July 2006 after working at her hometown daily newspaper, the Gazette, for 18 years.

She said: “When the opportunity came up to edit my hometown paper, the Shields Gazette, as well as the Hartlepool Mail and Peterlee Star, I jumped at the chance.

“The papers have fantastic teams and I’m really looking forward to my new role.

“It’s an exciting time for the Gazette and the Mail as we prepare to give the papers a fresh look.

“We have also launched tablet apps which are available free from app stores for a 30-day period.

“I look forward to working within both South Tyneside and Hartlepool communities and keeping in close contact with our readers and business contacts.”
