GROUPS are being urged to find out more about new legislation which allows them to register as a charity and a company at the same time.
The Hartlepool Voluntary Development Agency (HVDA) has arranged two meetings in town to discuss the new system for charitable incorporated organisations (CIO).
Voluntary sector chiefs say the new system will save organisations time and money. Peter Gowland, project director at HVDA, said: “This is a new system to enable groups to register as a charity and as a company at the same time, rather than separately, which is the case at the moment.
“This is quite revolutionary and has been a long time coming in the voluntary sector.”
The meetings are free to attend and are due to take place at the Belle Vue Community Sports & Youth Centre, in Kendal Road, on Thursday, March 10, between 7pm and 8.30pm and on Friday, March 11, between 9.30pm-12.30pm with a free lunch.
Guest speaker will be Dr Gareth Morgan, who works for a company called Kubernesis, which advises the government on charity law.
