HARTLEPOOL Mayor Stuart Drummond has announced there will be no new landfill sites in Hartlepool for at least 15 years.
The town has three active landfills, two of which are in Seaton Carew, and nearby residents have complained about the smell, noise and disturbance in recent years.
But Mayor Drummond said there won’t be any new sites approved under Hartlepool Borough Council’s Core Strategy, a major planning blueprint that will shape the town for the next 15 years.
Mayor Drummond said: “There will be no more landfill sites for the next 15 years.
“What we are trying to achieve through the Core Strategy is a dedicated industrial area which has got to be clean, without being detrimental to the nearby area.”
