A LATE-NIGHT call-out service to clampdown on noise nuisance is to be re-launched this weekend.
Hartlepool residents will be able to call a dedicated mobile telephone number, 07789921338, to report loud music, rowdy parties and other noise-related problems.
The service, which is run by Hartlepool Borough Council, will operate from 10pm to 3am on Fridays and Saturdays, from today and continues through to the end of August.
When a call is received, council officers will initially assess the extent of a problem before deciding whether further action is required.
Environmental health officer Heather Deane said: “We’re not killjoys and we don’t want to spoil people’s fun, but our message is that you can still have a good time without making life a misery for others.
“At this time of the year, people tend to have barbecues in their gardens and noise can carry some distance, particularly at night.
“Some people also tend to return home from a night out and decide that they want to carry on with the party, putting on loud music into the early hours. We would simply urge people to show some consideration to their neighbours and turn down the volume.”
Where staff are called out and they feel that a complaint is justified, people will be asked to reduce the level of noise they are making and failure to do so could result in them being served with an abatement notice.
If they fail to heed the warnings they could be prosecuted at a magistrates’ court under the 1990 Environmental Protection Act and face a fine of up to £5,000 if found guilty.
