Nurturing sporting talent

TALENTED sport stars are being invited to apply for financial assistance to help them achieve their goals.

The Hartlepool Sports Council, a voluntary group, administers a fund to provide financial assistance to individuals so that they are able to compete at the highest possible level.

The fund, which has been running for a number of years, is supported by financial contributions from Hartlepool Borough Council and Wynyard Park, which owns and runs a 700-acre business park on Teesside.

Applicants, who must be competing at county level or above, are eligible for grants of up to £150.

For those operating at national or international level the limit is £300 and £500 respectively, depending on demand.

The grants cover five specific areas and they are travel expenses, coaching fees, specialist equipment, sports kit and competition fees.

David Young, chair of the Hartlepool Sports Council, said: “We are grateful for the continued support of Hartlepool Council and Wynyard Park Ltd which means that we are able to provide invaluable support to some of the town’s most talented sportspeople who might otherwise find it difficult to compete in their chosen sports.”

The deadline for applications is January 14, 2013.

People are ineligible to apply within 24 months of a previous award.

Application forms can be downloaded from the council’s website at and should be e-mailed back to
